- Mr Islam has been working at Department of English Language and Literature, at Premier University since 2006. He worked at two MPO enlisted Colleges before joining Premier University.
- Mr Islam had been playing chess since his school days and was a National Chess Player with International Rating.
- Mr Islam was Bangladesh Junior Chess Runner up in 1980.
- Obtained 6th position in 5th Asian Junior Chess Championship held in Dhaka in 1981
- Obtained 7th Position in 6th Asian Junior Chess Championship held in the Philippines in 1982.
- Secured 3rd Position in Bangladesh Chess Championship held in 1993. A record for Chittagong chess.
- He obtained International Chess Rating from the World Chess Federation, ( FIDE) in 1993 and his Rating was 2145. A record for Chittagong.
- Mr Islam was a chess trainer at different organizations in Dhaka and Chittagong.
- Mr Islam was a chess Organizer and a chess columnist.
- Mr Islam is providing voluntary service to the cause of chess in Chittagong.
- Mr Islam has been writing to National Dailies namely in The Daily Star and Dhaka Courier regularly on varied issues, Literature, Book Reviews and other issues since 2006.
